A good friend of mine sent me a link to a website yesterday. Gapminder is, as he’d promised, an incredible site. Not only are the infosthetics created by the Gapminder Beta Application second to none but the information it helps convey is worthy, important and crucial if we are to set about the journey of closing gaps. We simply cannot close the gaps we cannot see.
Just three random facts pulled off the site.
1. In 1997, average life expectancy in Ireland was 78 compared to 36 years in Lesotho.
2. In 1997, the Irish military budget was 3.6% of total GDP compared to 14% of Congo Democratic Republic.
3. In 2002, the carbon dioxide emissions of Ireland was 9.8 tons per capita compared to Bahrain’s 31 tons.
Also, the TED lecture is worth checking out. As is the TED site in general.
